Case detection through Mass Survey, School Survey, Healthy Contact and IEC activities are going on all the time in addition to the drug delivery pulses. The GKNP workers arrive and using as a Megaphone, tell the people what leprosy is and its signs and symptoms. About an hour later the staff to reach for leprosy cases examine and chart new patients visits each house in the village.

Some of the workers have composed songs and slogans about leprosy and slogans are written on wall in the villages. We have been very successful in using megaphones in all the villages and as a result of this propaganda 50% of cases reported voluntarily. In our opinion it is a very good media to educate people about leprosy. School and contact survey is also conducted to detect new cases.

GKNP technician stains and read the slides, which have been taken in the field or headquarter clinic in the laboratory. HE makes regular visits to the field to help the PMWs with their technique and with the psychological aspect of cutting patients. He tells the workers how to put the patients at ease and to explain why they have smear test. A separate laboratory has been established for TB. GKNP has well established Tuberculosis Laboratory for Sputum testing.

Prevention of Disability is an integral part of the GKNP since 1995. Patients who are at risk are identifies status of each common trunk nerve is recorded in a specially designed case cards. The identified cases are followed up at regular intervals. Suitable advices are given to patients who report with established anesthesia and muscular weakness to prevent further worsening deformities in the hand, feet and eye.

To encourage learning through participation of staff of GKNP get together is conducted every month. They take initiative to discussion on topics allotted to them in advance. The brain storming session starts with important aspects. In addition orientation of field staff is arranged to up date their knowledge.

GKNP opened Blindness Control Unit in the campus wih fully equipped Eye Hospital . Eyesight resorted programme was started in the year1999 for blind people predominantly through cataract operations. From year 2005 we are started IOL implantation through PHACO to all the needy persons. During the year 10 eye care camps were successfully organied by the GKNP in the villages.

People with disabilities as a result of leprosy need to final suitable work that will protect their limbs and use their abilities. People without impairment still face stigma and need to find ways to become economically independent. Work and income also help people to regain self respect and community acceptance. Keeping the above issue in mind GKNP plans to offer Community Based Rehabilitation to these disable persons.

Comprehensive eye care services: At GKNP a unique project in Kaimoor district to provide comprehensive eye care services ( to the curable and incurable blind) was lunched in Kaimoor district. The project provides preventive and curative services to the entire population of district.

MCR (Micro Cellular Rubber) footwear unit has been established to provide necessary footwear for patients with intensive feet. A locally skilled cobbler is employed in the unit who prepares MCR shoes/ chappals. Apart from providing physiotherapy assistance to the patients the footwear unit is also supervised by the Physiotherapist. The MCR chappals made in the unit are provided to patients free of cost

GKNP organized sanitation programme in Chainpur Block of Kaimoor district. Sanitation programme supported by District Water and Sanitation Committee, Kaimoor. We should give more attention on sanitation because of without it we cannot live healthy. Our first and foremost priority should be sanitation. GKNP has decided to employment of sanitation programmed in all villages in the said block. To take the people self-reliant, regular training were planted in village for treatment of common disease. Under safe drinking water project, teach the people about save water resources. In many areas to help the people in keeping the village neat and clean with support of community and also provide proper drainage facilities to reduce the stagnation of water.
